Who doesn't love Babydoll Southdown Sheep Fleece
Over the past year I have had a few setbacks requiring me to close my barn doors. Since I couldn't completely continue being a shepherd, I wanted to remain close to the Babydoll Southdown, so I opened my once private milling operation processing my flocks fleece, to all Babydoll Southdown small farms.
I process sheep fleece, the heritage way, essentially completely manual-no mill machinery, all my fleeces are skirted by me, scoured, dried, and hand and drum carded by me.
My process consists of:
Skirting ( cleaning vegetable matter from the fleece) I do prefer all clients lightly skirt their fleece before I process
Scouring (washing)
Dying (only white fleece - if requested)
Picking
Carding (hand and drum)
As a small mill should you want the experience of carding your own wool I can skirt, scour, and pick in preparation of you carding your own wool.
I have booklets available too that cover the manual process for any small farm that may wish to experience the entire process themselves. See below.
My way of staying close to the Babydoll Southdown was to open my small Mini Mill to other Babydoll Southdown sheep people. I know so many breeders who just don't have the time to process their own fleeces, and often the fleeces sits in bags, sometimes several year's worth.
